The downside to this technique is that it affects the entire track, so it's somewhat limited. :( Vegas allows you as many tracks as you want, so the only limit is how much work you want to spend keeping track of your tracks. It's an official, U.S. retail-release DVD that I bought at Tower video, not a bootleg.
