Well, I've managed to fix my problem. I had my timeline set to display large thumbnails along the entire track, as I find that helps me organize it all in my head quickly. When I turned this off, everything started previewing just fine. Does anyone know why this is happening? I can live perfectly fi...

Premiere 5.1 doesn't have the project settings under exactly the same set of menus mentioned, but my previews are set up exactly as detailed by the guide to preview using the PicView MJPEG codec, at 29.97 frame rate (although I had it at 24 when I was trying IVTC'd video of course). My export settin...

movie playback in premiere is distorted

Okay, for starters I have Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides, and I obviously treat it with more respect than the bible and more love than common living human beings.

I'm running a fast computer with plenty of RAM and free hard drive space.

I'm using Premiere 5.1

Here is the setup: I read the guide a few dozen times until I knew it pretty well (and I've repeated all of these steps many different times to test this), I am using ripped Key The Metal Idol DVD's, and I've got my VOB's, D2V's, and AVS files all set up. I run the AVS files through virtualdub to get some MJPEG files just like recommended with PicView's codec so that I can edit everything at a tolerable speed.

The problem is when I import these AVI files into premiere to edit with. They import fine, I can drag them into the timeline, if I press the play button on the moniter before doing anything else they will also play in the moniter fine... here is where I get confused, if I move the timeline marker around at all, and press the play button on the moniter, it will become super saturated with really funky colors and look like total shit. Way too horrible to even consider just gritting my teeth and editing with it. Everything looks fine frame by frame when I'm just moving stuff around, it's just when I want to preview it (and yes, it is exactly the same problem when I render previews).

I thought it might be the source AVI files (and it probably is), so I tried encoding them at a variety of different quality settings, I also tried them with IVTC'd AVS files, with and without setting them to 24 fps. Everything turns out precisely the same.

PLEASE HELP ME!
