Had the same problem some month ago right after I had installed a new codec. Premiere wouldn't start, it just as you said shutdown at the loading screen. However after uninstalling the new codec it started to work again. So my tips would be if you have installed any new programs or codec’s recently,...

I agree on larc~en~ciel. For example Ready Steady Go might probably make a really good amv

Asian Kung-Fu Generation also got some nice songs that I believe should suit an amv really good.
I also believe Janne Da Arc and Psycho Le Cemu would be great.
