Re: EFF Wins New Legal Protections for Video Remixing

My reading of p. 27 - 31 tells me that "fictional films" do not benefit from this expansion at all. IANAL, but looking over that section there are several distinctions made, and it does not appear to me that "fictional" works which also are both "transformative" and "noncommercial" would necessaril...

For someone who missed the con this year, is there anyplace online to grab an image or a listing of the complete ballot? I'd like to hunt down all the videos and watch them (not just the winners).

So, as you can see, we're using something for which someone is entitled to payment, without paying for it. Stealing. Excellent quotation, would you consider following it up with a proper legal definition of "fair use" as well? Particularly of interest would be how "fair use" was defined before 1997...

i dont know why they would do that. our argument is free fan art, where the artists voluntarily share their work with the whole wide world. musical artists cant complain because the music had to come from somewhere, which is MOST LIKELY bought for better sound quality, rather than file-shared and d...

What's the link to that thread that explained this topic in full detail? And why isn't it a sticky? ;) I would love to see such a thing. I looked and found a lengthy thread about the Trusted Computing initiative, but that's not at all what I'm expressing concern about. I'm also not expressing conce...

Have we had this discussion before? Yes. But I think it's a threat most of us should be pretty used to living with by now. It's not like it's anything new, honestly. I agree that the concern is nothing new, but I also believe that this latest incident marks behavior "unprecedented" by the RIAA. I, ...

Legally, I think it could be argued either way. But, even assuming that we were legally in the right and that it all falls under "fair use," one's legal rights make precious little difference. a-m-v.org doesn't really have the resources to fight it out for years, the eventual court decision as to "...

One question, however. If we moved the servers outside of America, then the RIAA would have no say in shutting them down, right (granted the process will take a while)? Just making sure I'm on the same page here. IANAL, but if the DNS and hosting were managed offshore, by people offshore, then yes ...
