*facepalm* okay, just go to your file, right click on it and go to properties, then click the "summary" tab and see what's under "video compression". The program has to "warm up" if you will. During that time it is loading its various tools and may look like it isn't responding. also, if you're on vista it may help to run as admin. get gspot . It'l tell you what codec it's encoded (and if you have it installed or not...among other things) If you don't have the codec, google it, download and install and that should fix your problem.
