Burning to DVD...which free program + what formats?

Post by RIPmyprsoul » Tue Jun 26, 2007 7:46 pm

I want to burn a FEW AMVs to DVD. If I wanted them to be as highest quality available, what format and codec should I do, I was thinking Huffyuv but I don't think DVDs support that do they? Also, can anyone recommend some free DVD writers/burners? :D

MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are the only formats supported by DVD :|
As for encoding and authoring software... I dunno, TMPEGEnc Express maybe?

You mean TRANScode, and AVI is a container, not a codec. Some software can convert avis to m2v/mp2/vob/mpeg/mpg/whateverdesignation before burning it off as a vob in a file structure of your disc, however, I would recommend you use a stand alone converter, and TMPEGEnc is considered one of the most reliable.

Umm..sorry for asking, but my trial period for TMPGEnc expired so now I can't encode to MPEG2 in high quality...any ideas for another converter?

Some (if not all) trial software keeps track of the length of time it has been on your system by putting values in your registry. AFAIK editing those values isn't exactly illegal, and it will allow you to use trial software indefinately. You shouldn't play around in your registry unless you know what ou're doing though. =/
