Improving Audio Quality

Post by BurningLeaves » Wed Aug 08, 2007 11:23 pm

The song I used is off a bands acustic demo cd. Theres some cracking twords the end and the singers voice sounds kinda hollow and mono. I tried cleaning it up with my editing program, but that didnt seem to help too much. I doubt theres really much I can do considering its in the actual cd but if any one has any tips id really apreciate it thank you for reading :)

.. there's really not much anyone can do with a "live" recording unless you use Variable RNS & a DBX-118 compressor. These features are not available in ANY sound editing program ( that I'm aware of ) with the exception of "Album/Record" scratch-filtering. It will, at least, Mask the pop's and clicking noises.
.. the voice, being flat, can be intensified by using the "Expand" feature in Cool Edit and/or Adobe's Audition software.

sorry .. at least its a step in the right direction 8-)

Adobe Audition's Pop/Click Eliminator may be worth a try on the cracks, but don't expect too much.

As for the voice sounding hollow, you might try some equalization on the affected part of the song... there are some suggestions here on certain bands that can help liven up a lead vocal. However, those are really meant for individual tracks and not an entire mix, so there'll probably be some unwanted side effects (raising the noise floor, getting too much of some other instrument).

oo thank you both for your tips ill take a look at those programs. I figured there wasnt too much I could really do with it but I might as well ask. Basically the track would sound great if it came out in 1960... Thank You very much
