Video playing software for PC.

If this question is an out of bounds, I merely want to have that said and no boring posts please.

The question is, what do you consider the best video playing software.

We all know we watch fan subs, not going to go on about that further here.

Just curious to know, what you use, when you do watch em.

Again, if this is an out of bounds discussion, just indicate it, and we can move on to something else.

I'll offer up my preferences AFTER it is clarified if this topic is a go.

But well I believe your topic fits better in the General Video Section (a mod probably will move it, maybe)

About your question there are a few players you can use....

-You could install CCCP and watch your videos with WMP

-You can watch it with media player classic, wich is being installed with AMVApp (my link goes to the older version)

-I used VLC for some years, really powerfull player, but it uses up much hardware resources...

-Right now I'm using KM-Player ---> I think it's actually the best out there, plays everything without lacking as far as i know

In any case, I use VLC for most video things as it just gets on with it and plays the damn file, pretty much no matter what it is.

I like VLC usually.

But my much more tech savvy friend seems to prefer Media Player Classic with the right barrage of codecs.

And it's all about the codecs, because our videos all seem to use as many differing ones as is humanly possible (seems like that some days).

My first experience with this sort of trouble was back with the amv done to Mambolleo (yes that one). It really ran me ragged getting it to play back before I was used to dealing with codecs.

Tried Miro the other day, it sounded like garbage. My friend gave me some codec solutions though and I just haven't gotten around to checking it out again.

I'd bet that 95%+ of the vids on this site are DivX, XviD, wmv, or h264... so if by "as many as humanly possibe" you mean 4, then, yes.

I don't think 95%, maybe 75% in one of those four. A lot of older ones are MPEG-1. If you add MPEG-1 and -2 to the list, I'd agree 95% or more are in one of those six formats. You'll still see the occasional RealMedia, QuickTime MOV, or other odd format (like Cinepack or Dirac), but those six will cover almost any video of interest.

Clarification.

I stated it poorly.

Bu "our videos" I meant anime in all its non dvd non vhs forms.

In other words anime both amv as well as fan subs.

I use a combination of CCCP and Media Player Classic. It's been good to me so far.

The question is, what do you consider the best video playing software.

I don't think there is a "best" one. Mainly, it depends on your needs. For some needs it is possible to work best a certain player which may not work for other needs.
