Taking off subtitles...

Post by spreet » Sun Feb 10, 2008 3:44 pm

Is there a way (or better yet a program) to simply remove subtitles without having to mess with the video's format? I have the format where I like it. The problem is the subtitles get in the way. I'm still new to AMV making. I apologize if this is a stupid question.

best solution is to buy the dvds (given that they're available)
other than that, there really isn't any way to disbable subs without some extra work.

what's the file extension on your footage?

your best bet is to load the file in virtualdubmod and go to streams, streams list and see if you can find and disable the subtitles stream, if that doesn't work then you're pretty much out of luck (unless you want to crop them out)

chances are that you'll want to re-encode the parts of your source that you plan on using with a lossless codec (like huffyuv or lagarith) for editing
google for it if you don't have them (or download the amvapp from here)

I apologize. I should have clarified that I have a Mac. I tried to download the virtualdubmod but unfortunately it looks like it's for Window users. =\ Do you know of any Mac supported programs?

Cleaner is probably your best option, but it isn't free. Maybe avidemux.

Thank you very much! I'll check them both out. =)

Well I use Vegas to crop out all the subtitles. It's fairly easy since somebody has a guide on it with screenies and everything

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... 54&start=0

Just scroll down a little bit. It's a bit tricky to start off cause you dont really know what you're doing but once you get the hang of it,it's really easy and quick.

Hope it helps you anyway

If you don't like any of those programs, just finish the project export it as a .dv file and then crop the whole thing as one whole file. Probably the fastest and simplest way to do it.
