I just happened across this application called Pinnacle VideoSpin, and I haven't heard of it before, so I thought I'd post about it.
First off, it can be downloaded from here: http://videospin.com/
It requires either XP with SP2, or windows vista. I tried installing it on XP x64 edition, and it didn't work, so it apparently only supports 32-bit XP.
It's a very basic application, but seems like a solid alternative to windows movie maker. You only get 1 video track, but it supports titles, transitions, and images.
One advantage that it has over windows movie maker is that you can export your audio and video UNCOMPRESSED. It also allows you to import uncompressed footage. I couldn't get it to accept Lagarith compressed footage though.
It also appears to support frame accurate cuts (as far as I can tell), but you aren't allowed to put empty space between clips.
