Hi,
I beg all AMV Makers: Watch your Aspect Ratios! I came across so many very good AMVs the last weeks (some might have noticed my penetrant critics) which have a wrong AR and thus make me absolutely want to delete them. But I know there are tools for easy correction of the playback pixel aspect ratio. But of course it's better if you encode with correct AR and square pixels. It's not that hard to recognize if you look at round things like earth or explosions. What do the other editors think about this topic? Am I nitpicking?

Re: Watch your Aspect Ratio!!
Wrong aspect ratios make all of us cry. I never really understood how people could fail to notice something so obvious, but then I went and released an AMV in the wrong aspect ratio myself, after 7 years of editing and having never made that mistake in the past. I guess if you get used to looking at something in the wrong AR long enough, it starts to look normal to you.
But anyways, it's not necessary to encode to square pixels, as long as your video is properly flagged to use the correct AR on playback. Square pixels is easy though.

Re: Watch your Aspect Ratio!!
I get ticked when my own family screws up the AR on our HDTV - and it doesn't help that for whatever reason, the TV itself doesn't correctly adjust for the differences between the proper HD channels and standard cable (my grandparents' HDTV does, though - but their's is also a Sony WEGA and ours is a Samsung model). And just because that DVD says 'Fullscreen' does not mean that it's meant to fill a 16:9 screen. I've had to try to explain that one more than once.
