Hi!
I have some cartoons that are actually exe files, whose properties says,
'Macromedia Flash Player 6.0'
What is this called? (I noticed someone in a forum was talking 'container' - no idea if that is related to my case)
And the question is, how can this exe file be converted so I can watch on a home dvd?
Thank you as always.

You're probably better off asking this on a place like forum.doom9.net
.exe isn't a media container (ie, it isn't meant to hold audio/video data), so I'd be very weary of whatever you have there.

Re: how to port a flash cartoon (exe) to home dvd?
Generally, this is the realm of Flash to AVI converters. The problem, though, is that Flash can branch*, something that average video files cannot do (although with further development I could see Matroska implementing such an ability; MP4 might be capable of branching as well). And if the Flash animation does indeed branch, then you've got a lot more work cut out for you.
The problem with just calling it 'Flash' of course is that FLV has sort of hijacked the term - not intentionally, considering that it originated within the same set of technologies that Shockwave Flash did (albeit as an adaptation of On2's VP-whatever-the-number-was), but you'd be looking specifically for something that can convert from Shockwave .swf files, as those likely also include support for self-playing Flash .exe files.
*What I mean by 'branch' is that the video is made up of many little disparate parts which can be combined in any set order on playback - if you've ever seen the 'Troubled Windows' flash animation you have one notable example of such a dynamic. Most of the video may be played exactly the same, but there could be segments that get switched out for others randomly based on the Flash file's internal controller logic.
