Bad Upload
I know how you guys feel about the U Tube, but please help someone in need.
I used my Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro to make a short AMV; I rendered it as an AVI, it was 1:08 long, and it looks great.
I then converted it with Zarx264, made it an MP4; it was 1:08 long, and looks fine.
Yet, when I upload it to the U Tube, the audio plays normal, but the video plays very slowly.
It ends up being 1:43, with the last 35 seconds being completely silent.
I've uploaded a great many videos and never encountered this problem before.
Any ideas?

Nevermind.
I changed the audio in Zarx to be 256 kbps
I think that's what did it.

Ok, so the problem is back.
And this time, it happens at certain parts of the video and not necessarily throughout the whole thing.
What gives?

Re: Bad Upload
Youtube doesn't like h264 encoded in .mp4s... I like to trick it by encoding an .avi encoded with x264, it maintains good quality, and youtube doesn't fuck it up.

Re: Bad Upload
Right... that's what I've been doing.
I have Sony Vegas 8.0 render it as an uncompressed avi, then use Zarx264 to make it mp4.
It usually works out fine, but lately I've been having the above mentioned problem.
So... does anyone know a solution to whatever it is that is going on?

Re: Bad Upload
That's funny, because both of the x264/AAC MP4s I uploaded to Hosatchel always played just fine.AaronAMV wrote:<a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/v ... ochsack</a> doesn't like h264 encoded in .mp4s... But then, I used MeGUI, not Zarx264GUI. Though I can't imagine that that alone would be the problem.

Re: Bad Upload
Umm........U Tube converts everything into H.264 MP4s now; actually for quite a while now. You can directly download videos off and they are MP4s. And if you get the encode settings just right, the video will upload and you will be playing the original; no extra conversion ^_^! The problem is if they change their encoding settings you will have to match it. I played around with this when they rolled out HD in Nov. 2008 and got it to play the H.264 MP4 I encoded using MeGUI with no conversion. Your best bet is to Google around to see what people are trying at the moment.AaronAMV wrote:boochsack doesn't like h264 encoded in .mp4s... Hm... Whenever I upload H.264 MP4s, youtube always lags it a lot.anubisx00 wrote:Umm........U Tube converts everything into H.264 MP4s now; actually for quite a while now. Re: Bad Upload
I can't get U Tube to skip re-encoding like I used to be able to do. They must of changed their settings, but probably more likely they just re-encode every video now. People used to be able to edit FLV files with a hex editor to trick U Tube into thinking it was a lower bitrate file. By re-encoding every file they prevent people from doing this. After doing some testing and analyzing the files U Tube encoded, I found that it sometimes changes the frame rate slightly. I had it change 29.97 to 29.937 and 23.976 to 23.943. It didn't do it all the time, but it didn't seem to affect the playback to me.
I have seen many people's videos play choppy, frequently the SD version only when its a HD upload. Also, if it is HD and you click HD when the video is already playing, it frequently plays choppy. You can avoid the choppy playback by either hitting the HD button before the video starts playing, scrub the playhead to the beginning after hitting HD, or adding &fmt=22 to the end of the URL. Not sure what to do about choppy SD video playback though. I'll have to find a choppy SD video sometime and analyze it.
Interestinly, U Tube states this for their file formats list:
• .MP4 (ipod/psp)
• .MKV (h.264)
Seems like they want MKVs instead, not that it should really matter though. They use x264 with mencoder to encode anyways. But some people on Doom9 have stated they've had better success uploading in MKVs instead of MP4s. I'll try using MKV for my next several videos I guess.
If anyone is curious, here is an analysis of a video from U Tube I got from MediaInfo (used spoiler since it is a little long).
