How to effect tempo changes?

Post by Force-Attuned_Krogoth » Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:41 am

So I've picked a monster momma of a song for my next project. I want to cut it down to something reasonable, so I separated the more relevant chunks and tried to string them together. Simple, except the last verse is a slower tempo, which totally mucks up the easy transitions. What I'd like to do is add a short rallentando to the end of one phrase so I can accommodate this final verse. I'm running a copy of Adobe Soundbooth, and I've figured out how to speed or retard tempo without breaking the pitch. BUT it needs discreet speeds to work with, I can't tell it to gradually slow down. Does anyone know of an editor or Soundbooth trick to do this? Or will I have to break it down into a bunch of tiny pieces and make each one progressively slower?

There's no option for a "Gliding Stretch"? In the original Adobe Audition (that is, the first version after they bought Cool Edit Pro from Syntrillium), the Stretch... dialog box had Gliding Stretch as its second tab. It allows you to give one speed for the beginning of the section, allows you to give one speed for the end of it, and interpolates between the two speeds.

Well, Soundbooth doesn't have that feature. But I was able to find an old shareware version of Cool Edit in the dark recesses of the internet. It does come with Gliding Stretch, so I'll use that for what I need. Thanks for the tip!

Whoa, you can't keyframe in Soundbooth?

Soundbooth is the basic one, no keyframes. At this point I actually prefer doing the sound editing in Premiere ... does the same stuff in a non-destructive way.
