To be serious about it, a perfect 9000p might be likely in the somewhat distant future. 16000x9000 being quite the match and all.

Last I heard 4K of fast motion (think roller-coaster) on appropriate screens will make a non-insignificant percentage of people experience motion sickness and 8K will give some people motion sickness from normal camera pans.

I mean, of course, stuff that's naively shot that those resolutions and played back at full speed - upscales obviously wouldn't have that effect.

as if - couldn't you tell, I sorta prefer the wide-wide screen scenes even if they were only 12,000 X 3,200 then I'd be happy.

Q: if full sized shots make people motion-sick then how about wider shots for less vertical and added side to side views?
( after-all, whether you are driving a car, walking down a street or even sky diving, your never actually looking up or down!
Your looking straight ahead and side to side -- even in Golf! Soo, fuzzy-logic-in-cartoon-mode-here, why not just make it
wider? That would force people to pay attention to what's in front of them, on the screen, and stop them from look away!?? )

Yeah, I guess it is pretty naive not to realize people wouldn't have problems like that. :P

You won't need a new TV seeing as 4K is not a television standard. By the time you need a new TV, 4K will be loltiny. You will however need a new sound system when you get a new TV seeing as 3D audio kinda rapes traditional stereo mode.
