Mind is scattered....help? (VDM and MKVs)

Post by Sayoria » Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:54 pm

I think I knew how to do this before, but it has been way too long since I have.

Anywho, I am trying to load a MKV video file into Virtualdubmod. When I do, I get this:
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (Unknown)
Virtualdub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player are not suitable. 'Only Direct Stream Copy' is available for this video.
I got Xvid, and installed that, thinking that would have done it, but it didn't. My mind feels sort of scattered right now, and I for some reason cannot think straight on where to look. It looks simple, as I said, I am sure I knew at one point, but I just don't get why I cannot think straight about it right now, heh....

Any help on this matter would be great.

Install DivX or set ffdshow to handle the DX50 fourcc.
Also, you should use plain VirtualDub now. Latest version is 1.9.10 : http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
And, for future reference, vfw mkv are quite rare (and useless). Most of the time you'll want to load them through avisynth by using ffvideosource, as direct loading in virtualdub/mod wouldn't work.

Hurf durf avisynth 2.6 JEEB's build, or ICL if you Know People; coupled with VirtualDub 1.9.10. It's called "modern technology" (if you can even call avisynth modern anymore hurr hurr.)
