What is the most commonly used program to remove subtitles!!
Hi guys! I'm trying to get into creating AMV's but I'm having lots of trouble removing the subtitles from my Anime episodes! What is the most commonly used program to remove subtitles from files (before proceeding to the editing phase)
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

what file type is the footage? is it hardsubbed? if so, you'll need softsubbed. from there you'll want to look into guides for converting footage into file types that are usable with whichever editing program you have. depending on the method of conversion, the subtitles will be removed in that process. i recommend virtualdub+avisynth. here are some guides

I think it's hardsubbed? lol I'm not too sure I had a look at avisynth and It looks suuuuper complicated, but I'll have another look.

Let us know more details about the files in question. If it's hard subbed I would suggest finding an alternate version as hard subs are not really removable.

Just to be clear: hardsubbed means that they are an actual part of the video stream, as in somebody rendered the subs onto the video itself. Softsubbed means that the subs are separate from the video stream, and can be turned on and off by your video playback software. If your video file is an .mkv or .mp4, it's more likely that they're softsubs. If hardsubbed, the only way to effectively remove the subs would be to crop the video.osamh wrote:I think it's hardsubbed? lol I'm not too sure I had a look at avisynth and It looks suuuuper complicated, but I'll have another look.

Re: What is the most commonly used program to remove subtitles!!
I had the same problem before...I used to re download the anime without subtitles when I searched for torrents. But when I know about the hard subs and soft subs, things are getting easy. If the video format is MKV, then it's supports hard subs and soft subs both, but if they are MP4、AVI、WMV, M2TS, MPG, MOV,M4V, etc, only with hard subs, so must use different ways to remove hard subtitles in them. But first you need to know the types, then find the solutions.

Buying the DVD/BR and extracting the footage yourself eliminates all of these issues. Just sayin'...

I honestly use the program called, "Freemake Video Converter". May not be the best option, but converts the video to whatever format you want for editing, and removes the subtitles if the .mkv file itself contains a subtitle track.

Freemake Video Converter is not a good option and if it is softsubbed simply recontainering to MP4 will accomplish this without needing to re-encode. If it does need to be converted AviSynth + Vdub allows for more accuracy and better options for quality control (although the learning curve is a little steep, but not impossible).AlacrityAMV wrote:I honestly use the program called, "Freemake Video Converter".
