3D effects, how to?

Post by King_Cold » Fri Apr 09, 2004 2:26 pm

Ok, I've been watching some AMV's and I keep seeing some 3D effects I'd really like to know how they did it.
I won't go explaining the effect, just look at the pic at:
http://www.whitefluid.tk
This was taken out of Animix part 4.
In this particular part of animix it's not only a stable picture with screens, the screens move.
I want to know how to do this kind of effect.

THX!
If you think about what you tought you knew then you know what you think you thought you knew but you think you don't and If you think about what you thought you knew, then you think you don't know what you thought you knew but you do.
Think about it! If you can't understand my sig, don't you say nothing about my spelling!

vegas4 has a few 3d transition effects (blinds, cascades, flyin/out effects and shuffles) .

Vegas users: some links for 3D editing...

Simulating 3D With Vegas

And this site has a crazy plugin called SMCubes. With this, a transition occurs by separating the screen into spinning cubes that close up and re-form into the next clip. User sets the number of cubes.

Nice Plugins TaranT!
So After Effects it is, I'll mess around with it and see if I manage to do something decent.

ah, ya might wana spend a year or two mastering something like vegas4 or premier before you take the plunge into aftereffects. i tried the trial and well, its fucking hard as hell to use. the help file helps, but, it would have bein alot beter if they had included a set of tutorials

I used to cheat like hell to get a similar effect.

I'd use a 3d app like Lightwave (which lets you apply movies to polygons and animate those any way you want) or bryce.
Hell even using craploads of motion cotrolled layers in premiere.

In retrospect I suppose AE gets it done, but man... that interface is intimidating.
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

How is that cheating?

Pulling off something like this is far more natural to do in a 3D program than in some hacked 2D/3D hybrid solution. I'd personally build the scene linked in the parent in Blender, and texture polygons as I wanted.
