AVI and WMV wont load :(

it seems everytime i try to load a AVI or WMV video from this site it gives me a error thats somthing like CD1001011 error. I have the DivX codec and everything but why can;t i play AVI or WMV videos off this site?

well that a wierd problem. what media player are you using. have ya tried media player clasic ? does the problem only occur with avi and wmv files of this site or is it just all amv and wmv files ? did you install a codec pack by any chance ? they have a good reputation for fucking thigns up

You know what, I have that same problem too. I think it has to do with the updates I installed from Microsoft, since my player keeps on crashing everytime I try to play a WMV file. For now, do what bum says, and get Media Player Classic for now. I don't know what gooing on with Microsoft.

What media player version were you using before you switched? I had some updates wreck havoc on my codecs - but upgrading to wmp 9 settled that.

If this *was* with wmp 9, then please let me know - I'll stop installing microsoft updates.

well im using windoes media player series 9 and the problem only occurs to files on this site. And windows media classic sure helped thank you

I'm definetely uaing WMP 9. Supposedly a beta version of WMP 10 is out.

Eh, that sucks. I'm not upgrading again (I preferred the old versions over 9, I doubt I'd like 10). But I'll keep an eye on any changes my updates cause. If I notice files no longer working, I'll just set restore back to the day before installing the update (I'm on windows xp, very useful). I tend to mark a restore point before installing any update to my computer anyway. ^_^;; I'm paranoid like that since it doesn't tell you *what* the update is, just where it's from (aka evil microsoft).

Because. If you have a windows computer, windows media player comes already installed as the default player - and the windows computer automatically updates the windows media player without the user having to surf websites looking for new betas of 'non-official' players that may or may not be compatible with the computers they're using.

Now, you can learn enough to get the right player for your computer, and you can fix the 'default' settings to ignore windows media player's very existence. But it's still extra work when you can use what you have with just one little download to take care of codec issues (aka the ffdshow filter for those pesky xvid/divx files). It's a quick and simple program, already installed for the people who don't want to go to extra trouble just to watch a video, or to listen to a song (or to watch a dvd, or whatever the person chooses).

Plus some people don't like installing extra things on their computers when what they have works just fine (barring complications, of course - microsoft upgrades bearing bugs and all that). I know people who won't even get a filter or a codec for fear it will be carrying something harmful (hence the mpg standard for those strict wmp only viewers).
