VirtualDub - Creating a File with No Audio

Post by Majin Brett » Tue Sep 20, 2005 9:14 pm

I have a question.

I'm using WMM to make videos. The video I'm using for a particular vid has it's own sound. I'm aware that you can Mute the video file, but I've found in the past that this makes WMM lag something mega.

So, I used VirtualDub to create the same file with no audio. I'm assuming all I had to do was select the "No Audio" feature in the menu, and then save a new file. But the new file was 50 GB.

Could someone tell me what I'm missing or doing wrong? Thanks.

Select "Direct stream copy" on the Video menu (assuming that you're converting from AVI to AVI). That way the video stream won't be touched and therefore it'll stay the same size as it was before.

Yeah, I'm going AVI to AVI.

Hmm.. I could have swore that I selected Direct Stream the first time. Apparently I didn't.

But yeah, I'll try that out. Thanks.

Hmph.. Turns out I did use the "Direct stream copy" the first time...

Weird.

Are you using AVISynth? If so, "direct stream copy" will produce an uncompressed and therefore huge file. In that case, you'll have to select "fast recompress" or "full processing mode" and pick a codec that offers better compression.

If using AviSynth, you can use the KillAudio() command.
