tired of wmm, wana make an amazing video, advice?

I've been makeing AMVs for over 2 years, but they all look like it's just a hobby of mine, nothing amazing or out of the ordinary. My idea is doing the whole first part of naruto (eps 1-134) in an 8 minute instramental song called 80s runway modle by the jimmy swift band. The only video editing program i can use other than windows movie maker is Pinnicle, which dosn't work well with MPEG4s. So is there a different way I can get my hands on naruto anime (raw) that wouldn't be in MPEG4 format? Or does any one suggest another program that's easy enough to use that would work with MPEG4?
Another thing, if worse comes to worse and I need to make this vid with subbtitles, any methods on getting rid of them? Wide screen? anything along those lines?
