Can't Import & Edit

Post by MortalGathum » Wed Jun 28, 2006 3:14 pm

I have a file that I would like to use for editing but I can't import it into any of my video editors; premiere 6.5, pro 1.5, windows movie maker.

The video is XviD Mpeg-4 *which I do have.*
But the audio is in ATSC/A-52 Dolby AC3 which I do not have. I assume that this is the missing codec needed to import.

Lets me play the audio but I still can't import into an editor.

use VDub, import the file, and convert it without the audio. AC-3 is usually 5.1 surround sound, and most programs will not like importing that type of audio.

It's a codec used for playing, not really for editing.

Forgot to mention something since I was in a hurry to shower so I could go out. I used VirtualDub and Huffyuv. Horrible things would happen when I try to compress with the audio. I did make a 55gig file *video only.*

I would really like to have the audio as well I need it for what I am going to be working on. if anyone has some ideas let me know. Thanks.

I've used Foobar2000 before to flatten the 5.1 AC-3 audio to 2-channel stereo WAV, and then it worked fine after I muxed the audio and video back together. I don't remember the steps I took to do it, but I'm 100% sure I've done it with foobar.

I installed Foobar2000, looks awesome, but then I found out it doesn't to like XviD very much. Which is what I am stuck with since the file is in Xvid. All I need to do now is separate the audio from the video then I am set.

Can't import into an editor to separate the audio. When I used Virtual Dub to compress using Huffyuv it would work fine so long as I kept the audio out.

I thought that I could use VirtualDub & compress with the audio. That way I can use premiere to split/import into foobar. But if I include audio in VD the video skips frames and the audio is mostly static *no audio during the frame skips*.

Is there some kind of trick I can use to split the audio? Maybe use a different kind of compression in VirtualDub?
