vcd sound

does anyone know why the sound on a vcd would sound real crappy like if it was seriously scratched?

So you did the encode yourself?

My guess is that the original audio has a sample rate of 44,1kHz. Since VCD requires 48kHz sample rate, the conversion probably was done bad. So you need a tool that can do the conversion better. IIRC AviSynth can do that foryou.

a vcd does not require 48khz audio, here are the vcd standards

Video:
1150 kbit/sec MPEG-1
352 x 240 pixels
29,97 frames/second
23,976 frames/second NTSC Film

Audio:
44100 Hz
224 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2

Maybe I'm wrong with the audio sample rate for VCD, but it still sounds like a sample rate conversion problem. So maybe the original audio sample rate was different from 44,1kHz.
