Aspect Ratio In AMV's

Post by Dokkalfar » Tue Dec 19, 2006 9:08 pm

Do certain aspect ratios piss people off?
Would it matter much if i made an amv in where some of the footage changes aspect ratio?

Yes, the wrong one, because then the picture looks stretched out, other than that though, there is no 'wrong' aspect ratio.

Typically, it's best to stay with one aspect ratio for the entire video. The changing sizes can get annoying while trying to watch a video.

Learn what letterboxing is. Learn what pan and scan is. If you know those, or at least one of them, there is no reason to have the wrong aspect even when mixing different AR source.

Personally I don't mind having different ARs in a vid if it's for different sources, it's just never bothered me much. On the other hand, if you're only using one anime try and keep to one AR (I ran into one a couple weeks ago that had both fullscreen and widescreen with a single anime source).

I've been known to not notice that something is in the wrong AR sometimes, but even so I have to admit that it always looks better when it's in the right one, so you should certainly pay attention to what you're doing there.

Norskotaku's AMV Priceless is a good example of how to seamlessly transition from widescreen to fullscreen.
