I've had a similar problem with large corrupted files before, but not with everything. i'd review what you installed lately and see if you can't find any culprits there.

something like that happened to me when i had exported a corrupted huffyuv file - my fix was to delete the whole folder because as you say entering the folder crashed explorer.

Don't click on the main screen - use the "view" button at the top and select "list" from there. If you can't even use the main buttons, because it closes the second you open the folder, then getting rid of the preview icons won't help.

One way around it in the future would be to set the tools, and 'folder options' to "remember each folder's view settings" - set your clip folder to "list" and don't put your clips in any other folders unless you set it to "list" beforehand. Those folders should remain in "list" mode indefinitely. [works for XP, at least]

Ok, first to get the thumbnails off by opening a folder.

Open a Dos Prompt and delete the Thumbs.db in that folder and do this for any folder that you need to work on.

Next is to get your system stop giving this stupid error. There are many ways around this.

1. Uninstall all Codec software in your system including some major media packages like FFdshow or DivX etc. No need to uninstall WMP or such stuff. Run a registry cleaner and restart your comp00per. Then install a clean set of codecs and you won't (hopefully) get this problem.

I really appreciate the responses and have gotten many great solutions as a result.

But at the moment i cannot take any action that would include deleting files or uninstalling codecs.

Because im in the middle of a amv project and it has been said that its very bad to install new codecs in the middle of an editing project.

So i have to withstand for now. But thank you very much for your suggestions and i will surely use them in the future
Close calls are always the most exciting. Coming close is always the most dissapointing.
