VirtualDubMod picture different from MPC picture

Post by WC Annihilus » Sun Feb 11, 2007 7:45 pm

This is coming from a first-time VirtualDubMod (and my first serious AMV attempt) user so bear with me.

Now, when I open a file with VDM and then I play it, the quality seems much worse than if I play it in MPC. When I stop it, quality seems to be restored, but it's also paler. Also, the output video picture is even paler than the input picture. Is it supposed to be like that? It's really messing with my head since I'm trying to figure out what cleaning I need to do (and being it's the first time I'm trying to clean up footage, things are hard enough as it is)

Options -> Preferences

Change Output color depth to:
Match Display Depth

Save and accept.

Thanks :D Still looks a little paler than when I play it in MPC. Is there any particular reason for this? Not that it matter too much. Heck, I think I'm starting to prefer the slightly paler version anyways

Not sure. It could be that either MPC or ffdshow is performing post processing on the video which is changing the saturation or something...

It's possible that there is some colorspace conversion going on, which is generally the reason for faded colors if nothing else has changed.

Also, playback in VDM is going to always look like crap. I normally have to stop playback and step through the frames to make the picture look correct.
Having trouble playing back videos? I recommend: Image
