Suggestions for a Video Editor

Post by livvylove » Wed Feb 14, 2007 8:05 pm

I am looking for a simple video editor for my 9 year old little brother. I am looking for a cheap(20 or less) or free video editor. I am hoping to find a drag and drop type video editor that allows him to add background music, pictures, and video we have taken from our own digital camera. It would be nice to have easy transitions between the photographs and maybe a few cheesy extras. I tried the Microsoft Movie Maker but for some reason it crashes after I add 6 photographs and I can't find a way to add background music or import quicktime video.

I have a windows box that uses XP.

I think the problem is the format you may be adding pictures/video in. I don't think many editors, let alone free, digest Quicktime well. Other than Windows Movie Maker 2, however, well... the first good option you have is Magix Movie Edit, which is an excellent program but that runs ~$60

I might try updating the Movie Maker to see if that will fix it. I don't want to spend money on something that I am not even sure he will like. He seemed interested in it but then he might end up not being that interested and will only want to watch videos.

you could use powerpoint if youre assembling a scrapbook or photo album.

For under $20?

If you're going to go the powerpoint way try openoffice instead. It's free an I believe it does powerpoint type of things. Although to be honest I only use it's word processor portion so i'm not sure.

Windows Movie Maker should not be crashing like that. Try cleaning up your system (or ask a friendly neighborhood geek to) before shelling out money for new programs that will probably crash as well.

Magix Movie Edit Pro 11 can sometimes be bought for about $20. I bought my copy for $30 at Best Buy (it would have been $20, but I didn't send in the rebate).
