How to rip a dvd?

Hey,
I've been tryin to rip a dvd with dvd decrypter and winavi video converter, but things haven't been going smooth. I have been reading threads about dvd decrypter and virtualdub as a method, but i don't know how to do it. Can someone please explain how to rip a dvd using those 2 programs?
