FFX Ripping...without FFX2MOV

Post by RIPmyprsoul » Sun Jan 07, 2007 12:07 pm

Sorry for asking this but...when I rip my FMVs with FFX2MOV there's a black frame around the video making it have a smaller ratio than it actually has..in other words I don't want to switch between ratios when I make my AMVs with both FFX and FFX-2... Is there any other ripping program that DOES NOT do this?

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any way you can rip those fmv's without having the black frames in them. FFX2MOV merely tracks the locations of the fmv's on the dvd and extracts them. I'm pretty sure it's got nothing to do with adding in the black frames. So even if you could rip the fmv's yourself, odds are they'd still be there.

If the black frames bother you that much (which is understandable), crop them out using avisynth or virtual dub, and then use avisynth and virtual dub to resize the aspect ratios of FFX's fmv's to match FFX-2's. It's true that it takes some work, but it's bound to be much easier and more time effective than looking through an iso of FFX with a hex editor and searching for headers and offsets with the mere hope of extracting fmv's without black frames.

If you don't know about this already, here's a guide which can help you out.

and here's a section of the guide that contains some avisynth commands of which you might find useful.

All you really need to remember is to crop the black borders using either virtual dub mod's crop filter or avisynths crop command: "Crop(x,x,-x,-x)"
and then use avisynths "LanczosResize" command to convert the fmv's into the aspect ratio you want to work with.
My next biggest project to come...

You can also try DVD2AVI. It allows you to 'crop' the edges to your specifications. That's how I got the black frames/bars off of my stuff... It also allows you to do this to multiple-format video files.
