768 x 432 is a magic number combination. They are exactly at the 16:9 ratio.

768 / 16 = 48
432 / 9 = 48

Therefore:

16 / 9 = 1.78 (1.777777777~)
768 / 432 = 1.78 (1.777777777~)

For mod16, the number must divide by 16 to a whole number (integer):

768 / 16 = 48
432 / 16 = 28

I used 768x432 in my last video. However, I just did my first encode with MeGUI and was happy to find that aspect ratio flags worked perfectly. The MP4 played correctly in VLC, MPC, and WMP11 using ffdshow. MP4 is my new friend :D!

I'm a big fan of 848x480. Mod16, doesn't change the vertical resolution, and only 5.333~ pixels difference from true 16:9.

Makes most sense to just encode it anamorphic. No resizing at all. Except the obligatory resizing at playback.

That also should end any discussions wich resizing method is the least damaging.
Also it saves bits per pixel compared to upscaling the horizontal resolution. Wich in turn saves bitrate and thus makes the file more playbackfriendly.

It all depends on what the resolution, is on the actual original source of the video, for example if you rip a Video which is originaly 640x480 it will look much better than stretched to 720X480. The fundimental reason for is: 1. You Have to re-encode the video (which loses some info) and 2. When you stretch you will lose the quality like with anything else. But not so much the same with TV (My opinion), If you have, say for example a 720x576 (fullscreen) 4:3 video and watch it on any 4:3 AR Television. You will notice that every side is trimmed (about 80 off the width and height). but if you have a video with the resolution at 640x480, you will see the entire video footage without the trimmed edges, although when playing it on the Computer, there will appear black bars (well theoretically). It all comes down to the software you use. Sorry if i dont make any sense :?

I'm pretty sure 7680x4320 looks so much better.
