You can download Magix for free, but it will not be the full version.

Still, it is better than WMM.
I'm French Canadian. You should be honored.......

Well, you can check this list, but I wouldn't get my hopes up to find whatever you're looking for. You're gonna have to drop a little cash to get the good stuff.

premiere is fine... it's the clips that make it go slow.
...the same is true of any editing prog i know.
you can edit really fast using the Bait and Switch technique [once you get it all figured out] everything goes really smooth... even with a slow computer.

You basically fool premiere into using a low quality version of your source for editing... but still export using the higher quality original. Here is how to do it:

1.recompress your source with a FAST codec [like thePICvideo MJPEGcodec]
to make a copy of the original-- the LQ 'fake.' Preferably using vdub or vdubmod.
2.move the original source out of the directory it is in [just put it 'somewhere else']
3.name the fake copy with the same name as the original source
4.open the editing program, and [as long as the fake file is in the same spot that the original was in] it will be fooled into thinking that this is the original.

-since you now have a 'fast' codec within your program, everything will go really smooth
-The only drawback is the fake files can be on the chunky size, and could take a while to [re]encode... but that's okay... it's not like editing... you don't even have to be in the same room. :)

or there's a guide here:

on a side note: you've been a member since 02, but never made an amv? O_O

Why not? The non-editors have always far outnumbered the editors on this site.

ahh... so true. Maybe I just assumed for that amount of time [...and many enjoyed amv's :P] one would've tried earlier. But watching can be just as fun... I suppose that's the main purpose of amv's-- the viewer.

...although, if you develop a knack for editing, after going through some minor headaches... it's totally worth it... and I can see our friend Ki here sticking around much longer

Afaik the free (=demo) version of Magix doesn't allow you to export the finished video, so it isn't of any use for AMV making.
