AVI and WMV wont load :(

Well, for one thing, WMP7 and up keep track of play counts, for those of us who are obsessed with meaningless statistics like that (like me), and make managing playlists very easy.

Also, I've always found the interface to be much more intuitive than, say, WinAmp's. (I could never figure WinAmp out.)
