Amen.

Wait! There is an alternitive to Formatting! It only takes about 5 minets max and It gets you a fresh system again!

Nortan Ghost. It creates a copy of your harddrive contence in a hidden area of the disk, or on a bootable CD (or something like that). When you system getts unstable, retrive your ghost.

Draw back? Its like time travel. Every thing is exactly as it was when you first ghosted it. Every file setting, file location, and even when the file was modified all go back to that last ghost. Worst part is all of your new files go out the door too!!!

Solution. Partition your HardDrive and keep all your important files on one partition. Restore your system (to make shure its clean) before adding new software, then reGhost it.

I think Nortan Ghost does all the partitioning for you, but I've never used it.

I havent formatted this (win2k) system in over a year and it runs fine... operating systems are like cars, if you do small maintanence regularly then they will run fine for years.

Amen to that! I ghosted my hdd its in 3 partitions (xp and server 2003)
The other is for all my crap so when a problem arises just format the drive with the os on it. mm how long has it been since i last formatted.. im honestly not sure but i havent had any problems at all, good ole spybot, a registry cleaner and a good virus scanner will do you a world of good.

My OS has been installed for 22 weeks almost (something like 6 months) and it works fine. At one point, XP was up for 12 days straight before a crash that required a hard reboot.
