I've read somewhere (sorry, don't remember where) that it can be a good idea to enable RGBA even if an alpha channel isn't used. The reason for this sounds plausible: Having 32bit per bixel allows faster computing than 24 bit per pixel since the CPU works with 32 bit (or multiples of them). But I'd never checked if it's true.

Uhh... Just because you have a 32bit CPU, doesn't mean 32bit graphics are 'best'. It's really entirely unrelated...

The issue is that '32bit' can mean a LOT of unrelated things. It's just a measurement.

I just asked the guy, and he said he hadn't used the Huffyuv codec in a long time, and when I made my first AMV on my comp, this was the codec he told me to use, and he gave me the settings to put it on and everything. I asked him if these were the same settings he told me to put them on when I first got the program, and before I had to reformat my HD several weeks back, and he said he didn't remember.

Anyway, you should use Lagarith Lossless, it's better than HufYUV in terms of compression and it has options, you can select any color space you want easily. It's about just as fast so it's a great editing codec too.

I heard that Lagarith isn't necessary unless you're trying to make some visual effects or something. I don't remember the exact words I heard.

I have no idea where you get that from. Lagarith is a lossless codec, like HuffYUV. It also compresses better than HuffYUV, and is actively being developed.

Okay, I'm gonna try the Lagarith Codec to see what becomes of it. What are the best settings to put the Lagarith Codec on? There's three check boxes when I click on settings. They say:

-Enable Null Frames

-Enable RGBA Compression

-Always Suggest RGB Format for Output

I'm guessing I check the last one and nothing else, but I want to make sure.

Null Frames is where it repeats the same fame if it doesn't change. For example, if you have 1 second (24 frames) of solid black at the begining of you video, it will just compress ONE black frame and repeat the same frame 24 times. This is only a small help since you will rarely have video like this and it can cause incompatability in some software, where the null frames will be SKIPPED.

RGB+A compression is ONLY needed if you are exporting with video that uses an alpha channel. The alpha channel allows transparency, so if you are exporting graphics from After Effects and you want to lay them over with transparency over something in Premiere, you use that. You will most likely rarely need this feature. So only use it if you know you need it.

Always Suggest RGB is a minor thing and will only be needed if the software doesn't like reading other color spaces.

Other than that, just try not to screw up your color space selections.
