DirectShowSource("C:\mypath\myvideo.wmv")

I think you might also have to indicate the frame rate, but I don't know for sure, since for some reason, I can't get this to work at all for WMVs on my computer. So if there's some conversion I really really have to do (which there isn't), I'll use EO Video.
I'll try that, though I'm not sure how to indicate framerate. ^_^;;

[And I'll check out this EO Video, but my main issue is that I want to append wmv files like you can avi with Vdub or Nandub - and attach audio.]

If I read the AVISynth documentation right:

DirectShowSource("C:\mypath\myvideo.wmv",fps=29.97)

But like I said, I haven't been able to actually get this to work on my own computer. So if anyone who HAS sees something wrong with what I'm saying, please point it out...

ARGH. I'm an idiot. Thank you... don't know where that slash came from.

danielwang wrote:VirtualDumb, yeah it's a great tool, but it sucks in one way:

When you try encoding "Div-X ;-)" 3.11 alpha, Virtual Dumb pops up a message box saying it's an illegal ripoff. Ok, it's an old version, and the newer ones doesn't do that with DivsuX 5, but stilllll

Why does it say it's illegal ripoff! OMGWTF they think they're doing
The first(?) DivX was a hack of the Microsoft mpeg-4 codec. VirtualDub seems to think they're unstable (maybe they are, I don't know). The DivX team decided to rebuild the DivX codec from scratch (around 4 or 5), making it quite legal, causing VirtualDub to keep quiet.

Since when is Virtualdub being a big nasty all of a sudden?

It warns you that you are using an illegal codec (which divx3.11a is as it's stolen code) but lets you use it anyway. It's not like it doesn't let you use it.

(although using plain old divx3.11a without SBC is dumb anyway)

I never said it's nasty. I don't know what I'd do without it.

(The only one criticizing it is danielwang, and from what I gather he's got quite a reputation)

Well, did you try the AVISynth DirectShowSource method? If that works, then you don't <i>need</i> to go get an earlier version of VirtualDub, right?
