what the fuck do you know? you thought DVD's came out in 99. Betamax is superior to VHS in every way, the only reason it tanked was because it was forced off the market.NicholasDWolfwood wrote:Get a fooking VHS then.
Betamax is obsolete, Sony announced that about 6 months ago. It's a good format, but cannot live up to today's standards.
For example, my mom has a beta tape of "The Breakfast Club", which she recorded off TV a good 10-12 years ago. It's watchable, but has static on the top and bottom of the screen, etc.
The tape is stored in her video tape cabinet with her other 2-3 dozen tapes. (VHS and Betamax)

The reason Beta tanked was because the creator didn't want to share information cheaply. VHS was cheaper to implement and the creator was more willing to give infomation on using it out.
Also exactly why did you make this little thread ? Was there any point besides you telling us you're going to use Beta to record your TV shows off the TV? I really could care less.

And IMHO, DVD is superior to every other format in every way, so there. (I know a lot of older movies aren't on DVDs, like movies from the 70s and 80s)

I saw an interesting article the other day (well, the other month). Get a cheap computer around 486 speed (the pre-Pentiums), install two HD's in RAID-1 if you're worried about them 'crapping out', or just get one big one, install Linux and the Linux TV recording thing, get a cheap capture card, plug it into your TV, and viola! TiVo without the monthly payments and with more storage space (Oh yeah, install fans on your HD's too if you're a paranoid freak like me. It takes about an hour and around five dollars to do).
There's a fine line between genius insanity...and I've crossed it 67 times.

I took you this long to figure that out? I have known that since I first saw the Tivo unit. It’s called capture card. Same went for MOXI. I saw that at E3 and said to myself: “Okay, been there. Done that… It’s a PC with multi monitor output.” Just integrate your PC with your entertainment center and get it over with.Synthangel wrote:I saw an interesting article the other day (well, the other month). You just need to get your facts strait. The reason her movie is fucked is because it was RECORDED off the TV. That right there inhibits the quality of footage. Let me tell you, beta-max is far superior to VHS. Let alone Beta. Every professional betamax tape I own is still in top condition. Better by far than the VHS of the similar era. Digital, compact.... It really is a wonder Betamax lost the war. And if you needed a press conference to realize it's is obsolete you got issues. The moment DVD was standardized that was apparent. Same goes for VHS. Hell I would take Laserdisc over VHS and Betamax any day, if it weren't for the whole issues of 50 billion different formats.NicholasDWolfwood wrote:Get a fooking VHS then.

I have TiVo, well, not "TiVo" but something exactly like it. There are no monthly payments, just a box that sits beside the television and records a whole bunch of stuff. It's more of a temporary solution though, because it can only record 30 hours of playback. And, to be fair, it was kinda expensive ($300)
