OH THE IRONY.
Yay for me.
lol anyways, I was kinda disappointed to hear about this tool (Most whored tool in a couple of months).
I used to respect on how much time editors spent masking hours, days, and weeks.
I can tell soon people will abandoned the masking tool and just do the 5 hour work in 5 minutes, makes me very sad :( :( :(

I've actually been waiting for a tool like this. Considering I've seen it done in avisynth using simple shapes. I was wondering how long it'd take Adobe to catch on and create a tool for this.

I personally am glad to see this tool. It'll make a few video ideas I've had for quite some time actually feasible to accomplish.

No matter what there is going to be some tweaking that you'll have to do frame by frame, which will take some time. Also, you'll still have to do work to properly integrate the roto'd character into your scene. Well, you'll have to put extra time into this if you want it to actually look good as apposed to just mediocre.

I can't wait to use a tool that will allow me to move beyond the annoying technical aspect of roto work and get to what I love doing, putting the video to the music.

On the bright side, I can see amvs once again entering an era where the concept itself is what matters, rather than all the effects. Masking has long been considered the holy grail of "wow, that's some dedication right there!" Now it just becomes a standard creative decision.

That's what I'm scared of.

well, if masking is no longer a big deal, then yah, it'll be more how a person applies the masking, and I won't even be able to run CS5... so ;__ ;

No point of getting the pre-release. Just wait for the final product.

I know I will be happy to see masking change from being a 'wow he did that' to 'he did it right!' You know, having the focus move away from simply using of the effect to be considered good to how well you use it. Essentially, shifting the focus back to the editing.

Though I really doubt that will ever actually happen.

Ya, the sad thing is I can upgrade all the way from 7.0 Pro to CS5 for just 300 ... but then I have to buy a new Mac. :cry: So, it looks like I will continue to do it frame by frame for a while. :ying:
