NEW Guides and AmvApp BETA

I'm using XP
Uninstalling didn't help - maybe it isn't related? but it worked before...
Nothing to say about the crashing really... it just shows me the encoding dialog or whatever like it's initiating and then the program disappears without any alarm.
OK I reinstalled the AMVAPP and still the shame issue. Anyway it just says "starting..." and then disappears. I know this isn't a problem with avisynth because i did successfully open the script on virtualdubmod and I tried disabling all the filters. Nothing.
Besides the point:
1)The premiere AVS configuration GUI doesn't have a default value setup (show blank) so unless it is changed by the user avisynth will not work - I think this might cause confusion.
2)Also wierd, because I tell it I already have avisynth installed and to backup existing filters it doesn't set up all the plugins. For example the loading command "directshowsource". copy pasting from my backup folder fixes this though.
3)Why did you decide to create an all new encoding tool just for this purpose instead of just using Megui which does all you mentioned but leaves more room for exploring and options for output (using matroksa for example). Not to mention it automatically updates the codecs and everything and you can add some ready profiles for it and it's just as easy to use.

The problem with MeGUI is precisely that it automatically updates everything. You can't have valid and accurate guides if the software keeps changing. Also it is very dangerous because if you let it update certain things like dgindex, it can break your current amv projects.
Thanks for mentioning the problem with directshowsource. That's an unexpected consequence due to the way I did things. I will fix that in the next version, and I will fix the problem with the sexmemorymax too.
For your avisynth script that you load into Zarx264GUI, can you try adding
KillAudio()
to the script and then try it? I suspect there is a problem with the audio in your file and this is causing it to crash. If that is the case I can add in some more robust error checking for the audio.

Doom9 specifically says that beta versions of Avisynth are not supported so your error may be a result of the version of avisynth that the amvapp installs.
Megui has only been causing problems for me on Vista and I think most of it is to blame on the fact that the security on vista is tighter. Programs are confined to their program directory (They can't modify another program's files) unless the program has administrative privileges. Even when I gave megui admin rights, the megui update tool failed in updating megui and actually deleted the megui executable. -_-
For the amvapp I think the zarx264gui is the perfect addition to the amv app. Most of the avisynth scripting sections are already complex for normal users so keeping things simple for the encoding process is a good idea. If a user has enough savvy and interest to fine tune their x264 encoding then they should be willing and capable to generate and modify the batch file created by the zarxgui or download and play with 3rd party encoders.

Just to mention Normalize GUI is no longer on the doom9 page (either that, or I'm blind). This is the direct dl link if you feel it should still be in there

I have taken a peek at the guide itself. Mostly I've just followed the video tutorials.
I must give some background here. I am a Mac user primarily, so I've been following the guide on ishtori.net. (Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous! I cannot say enough kind words about the people who put out this guide.) I've read through much of the previous (Windows-based) guide and found it very interesting, though for obvious reasons I couldn't really use the methods described on my Mac.
Anyway, I thought I'd follow along with these video tutorials, just out of curiosity. I installed the beta software on an old "backup" PC. (Newer PC needs repairs.) Backup PC is a Pentium III with a 1 GHz CPU, 256 MB RAM, Windows 2000. The AMVapp installed seamlessly.
I followed the instructions in the video tutorials, to the letter. I thought it was very clear and easy to understand. Perhaps it's because I have some previous understanding of some of these principles (having followed the Mac guide), but I found everything very straightforward and well-explained. I was able to successfully make some footage which imported into Ulead VideoStudio (one of the NLEs I have on the PC). This was footage that has been giving me trouble for a while now. Weird interlacing problems (won't bother you with the details). Yet after running it through VirtualDubMod, it looks FANTASTIC.
In summary, LOVE your video tutorials. LOVE them! They are just the thing. I believe they make the Guide's learning curve so much less steep. I really think they'll make a HUGE difference, especially for newbies. Once someone sees how fabulous their imported footage looks in their NLE of choice, their motivation to learn the rest of the guide will be far greater.

Thanks for the kind words Elvira I'm glad that everything apparently worked out like I had intended for it to.
@WC Annihilus: Hmmm, I should probably just get rid of any mention of that tool from the guide altogether, because there already exist tools in amvapp which can normalize the audio, which would make things more streamlined.

I'm getting the same Zarx264gui errors as Corran with 64 bit XP. Any fixes? Or is this an inherent difference in the versions of windows? I could always run my encodes on my other system for distro, but it's nice to have everything set up on one system.

If you need anyone to do any testing on 64bit windows, I'd be up to it. Just drop me a message on AIM.Zarxrax wrote:Well I am unable to test on vista 64-bit as I don't have access to a 64-bit processor. I will check into it and see if I can figure anything out though.
