I belive it is because you don't want to resize interlace footage vertically, as said in the guide somewhere. Presumably because it messes up the scanlines.Akai Rurouni wrote:I'm going to bring up another not-confusing-but-not-totally-clear point from the same section of the guide.
later on...When working on a computer, it's very easy to resize you video down from 720x480 to something like 576x384 (A simple reduction in framesize). However, if you're working with interlaced video, this is an extremely bad thing. So what seems not totally clear is the difference between "editing interlaced" and how you were "working with interlaced video" in the resizing example above. The first is probably the easiest but for some apparently the least obvious: just edit interlaced!
Also, just a minor editing thing... "for some apparently" seems wrong. I assume you mean "for some reason apparently" or "for some people apparently". (And if you mean "for some people apparently" then I realize it is technically correct the way you wrote it, but I still say it looks weird.)

first i want to say the guide is really excelent and helped me alot.
i haven't tried making an AMV for a while and am not in the process of making one but i was wondering if it wouldn't be better to encode to xvid by ffdshow instead of koepy's build.
ffdshow has alot of cool features like post-processing before encoding, levels, adding an avs script through itself and different tools for sharpening and clearing footage.
isn't it better to use it for encoding anime?
just wondering.
i must say though, your guide is the best video guide i've ever read

Just a quick thing I noticed...
The attaching audio section is outdated. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... udio6.html It explains how to do it in vdub instead of vdubmod. =\ So I imagine some people would be thinking "wtf?". =)

The guides have been very helpful, and I want to thank those who worked on it, but, after I'm tired of being confused and want the pretty moving images, and try to get back, I can only get to the index - I was wondering if a link could be added to the guides so that you can go back to the main page.

Linked from there.
I guess if you are editing that page, you might also want to know that you refer to XviD 1.0 when you really mean later versions

The online version is updated, the downloadable is not.

The link from here:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... atios.html
to the Distribution Formats 101 page is broken, because the proper name of the file is apparently "distributionformats.html", while that page links to "distroformats.html".

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... esize.html
and
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... atios.html
seem redundant. Both deal with cropping and aspect ratios, with the latter being more detailed, but only for online distribution. "avspostresize.html" (which is linked from "avspostqual.html") seems to explain for both online and cons. This may be intentional, but seems a bit confusing.

Hey, I just discovered that, in my copy of Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a> (obtained at Anime Boston 2005) in the Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a> Aspect Ratio section, the "Mixing NTSC 4:3 and 16:9 Sources" is actually repeated, one instance after another. For a minute it felt like my brain was going on a crazy deja vu episode.
