DVD Menu Programs

Post by chuckg31 » Sat Jun 28, 2003 12:13 am

Does anyone know of a DVD menu program that is actually decent and customizable? I currently have Sonic MyDVD and its way too simple for me. It also doesn’t allow for multiple videos in the menus (as far as I know).

What I want to be able to do is have some sort of video playing in the background with music. When you go to a sub menu, I want the to be able to change the video playing in the background to something different with different music. I also want a program that I can make custom buttons for.

Anyone know of a decent program? Better yet does anyone know of a way to do this with freeware?

Thanks
-Chuck

Ulead MovieFactory might be what you're looking for. It's not free, but it doesn't cost too much ($50).

The menu builder is not completely flexible, but it offers a large number of styles, templates, fonts, button shapes, and scene frames that you can choose from (samples). You can select an image for a menu background and attach a piece of music to it. You can have different backgrounds and music for the submenus. But the backgrounds must be still images, not video.

More information is at the Ulead Web site:

For DVD burning, I use MyDVD also.

The only way I can point you is Download.com's DVD Tools section, which features a lot of DVD players, makers, and some movie makers (WMM2 is on the list for download as well).

Click here to view Download.com's list.

For customizable DVD menus you will want professional level authoring software. Ulead DVD Movie Factory is consumer/beginning level. Ulead makes DVD Workshop. This lets you build a menu from scratch without being restricted to the templates. This program starts at $200.

To correct an error I made in my previous reply: it is possible to use video files as menu backgrounds in MovieFactory. See this site for a tutorial:

This is the tutorial for creating your own menu layouts with MovieFactory:

If you want a video or picture on your DVD menus with music, you should get Nero. I can't live with out it.
