dvd ripping question

Post by wa5te41 » Thu Jul 31, 2003 3:22 pm

im new here and before anyone jumps on my case i did a search and have been looking for like an hour for answers to my questions but have so far come up with nuthing

now to the question. i dont have a dvd rom but i can rip dvds off of my dvd player by conecting my mini dv camera to it. i then load the footage onto my computer and go from there retaining dvd quality. i decided to make my first amv using akira (very unoriginal i know, lol) but when i tried to record it said copyright protected on my camera. does anyone know how to get around this. i would really appreciate any input and im sure someone knows this because ive looked around these forums and most of you people sound like computer geniuses.

thanx for your help

For future reference this should go into the General Video forum or the Video Software Help ;)

Anyway... I think you stumbled up in a Macrovision protection problem: the DVD is Macrovision protected and the camera simply refuses to aquire the signal. Possible solutions:

1) Buy an analog device to remove the Macrovision signal

2) Buy a dvd rom for your computer (probably at the same cost and will be a lot better).
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

The disc authoring house can choose whether or not to activate the copy protection flag. If they didn't on your Deftones disc, they either forgot, or didn't want to.

The short answer is that it's not possible. Some sort of hardware is required to clean up the signal. That said, it may be possible to change the firmware inside your DVD player so that it ignores the encoding. I've heard of such, but don't know any more about it. Of course, that route comes with the risk of trashing your player.

BTW, simple DVD drives are actually pretty cheap; under $50.
