24 FPS with Higher Visual Quality or 30 FPS with Lower VQ?

I want to encode my video for release but I am undecided on whether to make the video (which is originally 29.97 fps) 23.976 frames per second with an increased bitrate or putting it at 29.97 fps and lowering the bitrate. Which would most people prefer?

The framerate of a video file doesn't have to do with the bitrate it's at, so what the hell does it matter?

If your video is truely 29.97 fps then you should leave it at that, as reducing the framerate will make it choppy. However, if the video is originally 23.976 fps (which it most likely is) you are better off doing IVTC to convert it to 23.976fps. And as Nicholas said, this has nothing to do with bitrate.

My ass it has nothing to do with bitrate. Lower framerate = less bits spent = lower bitrate for same visual quality.

Well, the way *I* interpretted his post, was that he was aiming for a certain filesize rather than a certain quality, and that changing the framerate would somehow effect the bitrate he should use to achieve that size. This is actually how a lot of people think, believe it or not. It's all in the way you choose to interpret what he's said.

ok. let me clarify what i was trying to say. say i encode a video at 29.97 fps and it ends up being 50 megs. i want to know if people would prefer the 29.97 fps 50 meg encode or a 50 meg video encoded at 23.976 fps with an upped bitrate so that the quality is better.

wwf_htm: my first post still stands. What you need to do is figure out what the correct framerate for your video is, and use that. The guides should be helpful.

right on, I knew you meant that, I have a way with scrambled minds. Besides I think the point is to think of this guys goal, it was OBVIOUSLY to get a certain size not to find some nerdy formula that equates the relation of bits and frame rate... that's the problem with AD and Ermac's guide too.

But I can't beleive I'm with Tab on this one, considering how both our alter-egos bickered on that religion thread... and I can't believe he remembers that thread either ^.^ (less it poped up in the passed few days... really surprised it wasn't locked emediately for the same reason the "say something nice about the person before you" thread was).

we argued in a religion thread? Hmm. I probably didn't know what I was talking about seeing as it was long enough ago that I don't remember it. You might want to try here. It only starts on page 15, everything before it is just warped talking about gays.
