A little difficult to explain!

Post by Brolli12 » Fri Apr 02, 2004 5:42 pm

Ok a little help here please!
It' s a little difficult to explain what I need but I ll give it a shot:
I want to do something like simple piano keys(different color-footage within a column), but I want to use some more complex desigh. For example a " T " .
or a diagonal column or something different with no particular shape if you get my drift.
Obviously "Clip" won't do it ...so how can I do such a thing???
Sorry for being weird but I can't find the correct words to describe this I just hope someone understands what I need...

You need to use an image matte. Simply create a black and white image, where the white part is what you want to show through, and the black is what you dont want to show through. Or maybe its the other way around, but it doesnt matter because you can just invert the colors if its wrong. Anyways, after creating th matte, simply apply an image matte transparency to the video and use this matte. Then just move the matte around to change where the piano keys effect happens on screen.

A better (with pictures even!) example:
Here

Once you've done it, it is actually a fairly easy process.
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Thanks for trying guys but like I said I want something more complicated. I already know how to do piano keys fairly well!!
I just want to do the same thing using something with no horizonal or vertical lines.picture this example: someone is holding a little christmas tree!!!
I want to do something like a piano key BUT only covering the cristmas tree.
It has a lot of edges so I can't think of a way to do it with clip!
How do I do that??
Sorry for being persistent but I am really stack up with that thing.

We just told you how to do it man. You do it with an image matte. Draw a little christmas tree and use that as your matte.

Here is a cap from my latest video using the exact same technique.
You can imagine that the trees in the background are christmas trees if it makes it easier for you.
1) robin matted (poorly) in front of an EVA she just roasted
2) dancing flames in her eyes

You might want to drop a message to DownWithPants. He's in on an instrumental AMV project I'm managing in which he made a video to Clair De Lune which begins with precicely the effect you are describing - compositing of two streams of video in the shape of piano keys matching the notes being played. I'm not quite sure how he did it myself, but he might be willing to share.
may seeds of dreams fall from my hands -
and by yours be pressed into the ground.
