Slowly learning but still have questions

Post by Speedy_Lube » Thu Sep 16, 2004 10:32 pm

Well I have some real problems here.

I have been making videos in Premiere and can't figure out the whole encoding process. Oh sure, I realize I ought to use MPEG or xVid and not QT (oh the horror :? )

Anyway here is the deal. I can get my videos made. I can export them into large .AVI files of 700MB to 1500 MB (I also make live action vids too).

When I try to encode these I always run into problems. A while ago I was advised on this board not to use Premiere's own encoding which is fine since I can't get it to work right anyway. I was told to use VDubMod. This did not work because everytime I tried to open the file I would get errors. I tried some other programs like TMPGEnc, and Gordian KNot. They either would not open my large AVI or in the one case I was able to make a file, there was audio but no video.

Can someone please help me with this?

What programs should I use to encode?
What format should I use to Export my video from Premiere so that I may use an encoding program to make a MPEG or Xvid file of it?
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Are you exporting DV AVIs? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause problems in VDubMod and TMPGEnc.

Try exporting with the HuffYUV codec and see if you still get those problems.

I'm no genius at encoding but it might help if you stated what it says on the error messages. I haven't had many problems with Virtual dub and this GUIDE can probably help u do anything u need to. You may want to re-install virtual dub or make a AVS file out of your avi (This is explained in that guide) and import that into Virtual Dub. Hope this helps to some extent.
