First off, take this to another forum, like one of the video help ones.

Second, what kind of memory are you talking about? RAM? Hard drive space?

memory is usually RAM :P

This is also unheard of. You could probably get by with 64MB.

However, what with 128MB of PC133 SDRAM that will work on most any SDRAM based board costing only $12, there is really no reason to ask this question. Not to mention that you can also get 512MB for $28, though it usually only works on Athlon based SDRAM boards(hi-density).

Argh say hard drive space then.

You're screwed then. How MUCH space is the question. You need atleast a couple gigabytes if you want to do it properly. If not then you need to get a bunch of divx footage and hack away at it in Premiere and hope for the best. That's how alot of us got started.

It sounds like you're just starting out. I would suggest you check out the guides here as well as on www.mindwapret.com.

If you don't have even a fuzzy picture as to what you're doing then read all the guides you can until it becomes clearer.

I am limited to a 20 Gig HD and can edit with lossless quality compression five minute AMVs (at least, I hope I can... currently testing that hypothesis). The thing is I just have to spend a lot more time managing what little I have and being very efficient. I rip the VOB files, same them as a project in DVD2AVI, convert the d2v files with VFAPIconv, and then go through each episode, select the scenes that I want and save them as a HuffYUV file. Then I blow away the VOB and d2v files. However, this still is not enough. So, I have to edit my video in sections, a minute or so at a time. Once I get a section complete, I encode that as another HuffYUV file and then blow away ALL of the source files. It ain't quick, but it's doable. And then I go to sleep and dream of buying a 200Gig HD.

Three words...

VERY POOR QUALITY!!!

My program runs out a gig and a half hard drive space just by the fact that it's open.

20GB is possible :p.

The way you're doing things though. It may just be better edit direct with the vob files rather then converting them to huffYUV. It's about 1GB/minute for huffYUV @ 720x480 res. Actually it probably is better that way if you have more then 1 or 2 dvds for source.

Starting out I edited using the vob files and when all the HD that is used is added up I only used a little under 6 Gigs for editing my first video.

I have 8 DVDs for source for this video, so yeah, VOB editing isn't really an option for me. But for one or two, you're right, it'll work.
