Lightning and/or Electricty Effects
Anyone know how to make any? i really need to learn how. I seen someone use it in a Dragonball Z video a few years back but i wasn't into making AMVs then. So anyone mind telling what program and how i could do it, i would really apprecaite it.

ms paint, or preferable a more advanced image editor such as the gimp. Draw the lightning, electricity or whatever, then draw a few more (25 is a good number) different versions, but keeping the same structure. Save each image with imagexx structure, xx being the number of the image from first to last. Import the image sequence into your video editor, and viola. You can also change the xx in the naming structure to vary the effect.

If you're going to use a picture editor, Ulead's PhotoImpact has an animation utility. Lightning is one of the effects, and it will create either the animated GIF or a series of bitmaps. Intricate stuff and easy to use. If I get time I'll put up some pics. PhotoImpact retails for under $100.
Otherwise, Premiere users can read this: http://www.adobe.com/education/digkids/ ... chool.html
Vegas users can use the Media Generator called Noise Texture.

Ulead's PhotoImpact tutorials are here. Also, Google for "photoimpact tutorial" to find more. There's a lot out there.
Quick lightning effect in PhotoImpact 7. (Things may be different if you have the new version 11.)
Start PhotoImpact. Select File-New-New Image. Set Canvas to black. Set image size to User-defined with your video project size (e.g. 720x480).
Select Effect-Creative-Lighting. Lightning should be the default, but if it isn't, select it in the lower left Effect bar.
The lower right section has the playback and keyframe settings. Press the Play button to see the preview. Leave everything as is for now and click the Save... button. Set Save as Type to Sequence BMP. Then set a directory and a base name. Click Save. You'll find a set of BMP files numbered like filename0001.bmp, etc.
These are the image files that you place in your video project on an overlay track. Set each one for a length of one or two frames. Set up the chromakey or compositing so the lower track shows through. Render.
