About VideoLinux
There seem to be a 'new' OS specifically for video editing and encoding. Just wondering has anyone tried this linux distro. What applications does it have and which ones are for ripping and for editing?

Voila, the package list. It doesn't look like it's meant for editing, though. Neither Cinelerra nor Kino are included, so unless there's another editing program for Linux that I don't know about (which is likely, as my knowledge of programs on any OS is remarkably limited to just about only what I myself have/use/used-at-one-time/hate), there you go.

Apparently the distro is still in alpha, so everything will be in flux. The creator has put WINE support in and said that VirtualDub and a few other Windows programs will be included. So hey, maybe you'll be able to use Premiere?
Hopefully Cinelarra, Kino, and whatever else will included as Linux editting programs as definately the way to go. Maybe post in the forums?

It seems that the inclusion of WINE is to allow for e.g. AviSynth integration.SpringBoy wrote:Apparently the distro is still in alpha, so everything will be in flux. As far as package contents go: the VideoLinux distribution does include transcode, avidemux, mencoder, mjpegtools, cdparanoia, dvdauthor, gimp, vlc, mplayer, and xine. These tools and libraries are the most popular packages for digital video work. I also see some libraries used for Firewire DV capture, so that seems to also be planned.
kdenlive (a video editor for KDE) is also included, so maybe some light video editing capabilities are also intended. Dunno.
I haven't tried it out, as I'm still happy with my Gentoo setup (and I'm rather infatuated with dyne:II insofar as specialized GNU/Linux systems are concerned), but it definitely looks interesting. I'm downloading the alpha ISO now.
