MP3 decoding issues

Post by Southcross » Wed May 03, 2006 6:07 pm

anyone ever have problems with MP3s not being decoded properly? I've been getting strange "hickups" with MP3s being decoded into other formats. i.e. MP3s being decoded/burned as CDA with Nero 6. PLayback of MP3, via Premiere preview is often choppy, but is exported correctly.
Its been driving me nuts over the last few days as I have ruined about 3-4 CDRs making music CDs for work. If I do a direct CD to CD copy, the audio is fine. But if I have MP3s and burn them as CDA, they have hickups and minor pauses in the playback.

I have installed a lot of different codecs (primarly video) and shiz over the last month or so, so it would be kind of hard to narrow down what I might have installed that could affect MP3 decoding... Just currious if others have had issues, and what might cause/fix it.

The thing about Premiere is that it's really recommended you turn those mp3s in to wav files first to avoid such hickups, it takes some cpu power to decode them on the fly and while your system is trying to render video and effects and all that jazz it might give you some skipping on the audio if it can't keep up.

About burning audio cds, well ever since I can remember, I always turn my mp3s to wav files before I start the burning process for the same reason almost as premiere. While many programs (Nero, Musicmatch, CD Creator *insert other) will allow you to just add the mp3 file itself on to the list, it still has to decode the file in the background to a wav before burning it and since it is done on the fly as well, this is where the chance for a possible skip or two, sometimes even an uncomplete song would arise.

well this is more of a "general audio" question, than a "video audio" question (based on the forum descriptions ;) ) I have always burned my CDs from MP3, and before I never had any issues at all burning CDA from MP3. But, its been months since I burned my last CDA disc, now if I try to burn a CDA I get "little hickups and pauses". I haven't installed any audio codecs that I am aware of, only video ones.... wondering if anyone might have any ideas what is causing it.

I think its a Nero issue now... I, for "shitz and grinz", decided I would try buring CDA with Window Media Player :puke: My Audio CDs came out perfectly
