Where do I find the codec I need to download for WMM2?

Post by Aki Ameko » Sat Jun 17, 2006 10:18 pm

I've acted according to A&E's guides and converted my footage to .avi. But, my WMM2 says there's a codec I still need to download in order to get my footage on there. Anybody know where I can find this codec?
Working on my first AMV! Any help is greatly appreciated.

do you know what codec you used for the video you are trying to play/edit?

if it's divx/xvid you might as well give up...and just re-encode in vdub(/mod) with huffy or lagarith (if you need huffyuv or lagarith it's a preety easy search on google)

(no non-linear editing programs such as WMM2, Vegas, Premiere, etc like to work with divx/xvid)
if you already knew this, sorry for putting you through it again.

Well, I just did what the guides told me, so I'm not sure what codec it is you're talking about. But I'm sure it's NOT divx/xvid. It's ok, you're trying to help. :D

assuming that you are using Windows

navigate to your encoded video
right click and select properties
click the summary tab
click on advanced

down on the bottom it should tell you what codec was used to encode that file.

It only gives the pixels, duration, frame rate, and data rate. :(

What did you compress with? It will be that. If you didn't recompress, than the video is (supprise!) uncompressed.

Mmmm not sure what it was I did. I had it in VirtualDubMod where I removed the interlacing and resized it, then I put it in the MakeAVIs part of FFDShow to make it an .avi file.

That part of the guide, scroll down to Frameserving Avisynth to Programs without .avs Support.

Oh, I just realized that the guide DOES have a section for WMM2... I'll try reading that and see what comes up...

Well it said to convert it to 29.97fps, which I did, then I re-did my .avi files, but it still wants some codec that I've no clue what it is. XP

After doing some googling I ran into GSpot. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/gspot252dl.html

I ran it and it said AVIS codec. Ok, now where do I get that...? Everything I find seems to do all this talking about it that I don't understand, and when there IS a link, it doesn't look like what I'm looking for and/or has a bunch of mumbo-jumbo charts displaying different links that make me go "Whuuuuuuuuu...?" XP

I'm trying...!
