This may have been out for a while, but I just found it and thought some might like to try it out.

Even if it had a million compatability improvements and was the most amazing player ever you'd still say "OMG NO WAY!11 CUZ MICROSOFT IS TEH SUX BY DEFAULT, TOTALLY TRENDING IDEOLOGY ON TEH INTERWEB", because hating microsoft products yet continuing to use them = cruise control for cool. Cry more fag.
I very much like it, just like I liked it's predecessor, WMP 9. I hate Media Player Classic. WMP 6.4 was pretty sweet though.

Slow, bloated, drm infested. What more could you NOT want from a media player? Yes Trythil may enjoy bitching about microsoft but he actually has a point.devilmaykickass wrote: Even if it had a million compatability improvements and was the most amazing player ever you'd still say "OMG NO WAY!11 CUZ MICROSOFT IS TEH SUX BY DEFAULT, TOTALLY TRENDING IDEOLOGY ON TEH INTERWEB", because hating microsoft products yet continuing to use them = cruise control for cool. I don't actually use it; you can see why in the screenshot. I use VLC and mplayer primarily.devilmaykickass wrote: Even if it had a million compatability improvements and was the most amazing player ever you'd still say "OMG NO WAY!11 CUZ MICROSOFT IS TEH SUX BY DEFAULT, TOTALLY TRENDING IDEOLOGY ON TEH INTERWEB", because hating microsoft products yet continuing to use them = cruise control for cool. Here are the problems I have with it, in order of importance:I very much like it, just like I liked it's predecessor, WMP 9. I hate Media Player Classic. WMP 6.4 was pretty sweet though.
- As I mentioned above: explicit enabling support for DRM. Sorry; if a player does that, I will not use it. For example, I do not use iTunes for this reason, and will not use gstreamer components that facilitate DRM implementation. (Sorry, but I just don't think bending over and taking criminal treatment is a fair trade for paying artists for their work. You might disagree.)
- Aspect ratio handling is very clumsy in Windows Media Player, especially with Matroska and MP4 files. (VLC and mplayer usually handle such AR correction just fine, although mplayer sometimes has issues with non-4:3 displays.) If they've fixed that in WMP11, then I'll remove that gripe from this list.
- Not open-source or free software. You may think this is trivial and will probably attempt to portray it as such. Before you do, however, you should note that these are the problems I have with it.
- In windowed mode, it eats up far too much screen space. (This, again, is not a problem unique to WMP, but is one that I feel is applicable nonetheless.) By contrast, I can run VLC and mplayer in a terminal, shrinking them down to nearly nothing, and both the VLC and mplayer GUIs are very minimal.
- Integrated music store. I have the same problem with iTunes. Some people like it; I don't.

If you can point out where WMP11 makes improvements to any of those gripes, please tell me and I'll re-evaluate the list.
